We're the only service with good and bad credit reporting.

Landlords can’t report late rent on any other payment platform.

Pay in full each month for automatic good reports.

If a balance is $0 owed near the end of the month, the month reports as “paying as agreed.”

A credit report showing an excellent 790 score.
A calendar shows the 2nd, 9th and 23rd highlighted.
Payment plans with landlord permission are also good.

It’s hard to pay rent in full on the first! Landlords give permission for RentHelper to offer payment plans. While a renter works down a balance, we don’t report either good or bad. We wait. When they next hit zero near the end of the month, we report as good.

99% of renters have built credit.

Renters with no prior credit or bad credit from other accounts may find their rent history is a big boost. Renters who have struggled in the past find they are much more stable on a payment plan.

RentHelper was a huge help! My credit score increased significantly.

The landlord decides.

We report bad when a renter…

Ghosts or stops communicating.

Leaves owing money.

Refuses to work in good faith on a payment plan.

We give notice before we report.

We don’t report negative without first notifying the renter over text and email (both if possible). Renters have 30 days to prevent a negative report. Many renters become regular payers again. These are actual messages (name changed).

Two messages are shown. Both are from RentHelper. They read: Hi Emily, our records show $4,400 past due, not paying as agreed, no communication. This could harm your credit. Per the terms and conditions you agreed to when you enrolled at (link to terms), we may be required tor report negative payment history. Before Mar 1 please reply...
A Credit Karma screenshot shows payment history for an apartment that costs $2,800 per month. Each month a green checkmark rating appears and says ok.
We resolve disputes.

If a negative report enters, we participate fully in the dispute resolution process. Just because a negative report is contested does not mean we will let it be overturned. Disputes are rare. This renter contributed screenshot from Credit Karma shows things going well.

Credit reporting gives extra incentives to landlords and renters.

Landlords are motivated to let us know about changes to a tenancy (start, stop, end). RentHelper stays up-to-date and accurate. Renters are motivated to make good faith efforts to stay on top of rent. RentHelper works. These are actual messages (name changed).

A text from RentHelper reads, Hi Claire, because we did not hear from you, a negative recredit report entered Mar 1. Please let us know if we can start a payment plan to improve your credit. The renter responded, Hi and Good morning, I want to apologize for everything. Please can you be taking out $400 every Friday.

Renters with long histories can load their full history.

When a renter signs up with RentHelper, they have the option to enter their original tenancy start date. This prevents sudden creation of a new trade with short account history.

Fair.

Affordable.

Friendly.

You have to start before it's bad.

We cannot help unless your counterpart is already enrolled. Landlords must ask renters to enroll before there is a problem. Renters must ask landlords, as well. Both parties must willingly participate.
